Experiencing the San Francisco Symphony for the First Time
At SGK Home Solutions, we’re proud to call the Bay Area home. People travel from all over the globe to enjoy the amenities we have on our doorstep. One of our area’s most beloved treasures is the San Francisco Symphony. If you’ve never opened the window to the world of classical music, a visit to the symphony is the perfect place to start. Here’s a look at how you can soak up everything the San Francisco Symphony has to offer on your first visit:
- If you’ve never visited the symphony before, you may be intimidated by trying to dress appropriately. Contrary to what you’ve seen on TV, formal attire is not required at most concerts. Although it is customary for guests to wear tuxedos and gowns to the opening gala, business/cocktail styles are the norm for most San Francisco Symphony events.
- Just as with any public entertainment event, you should switch off your cell phone to avoid disrupting the show. Save your conversations for before and after the show and at intermission. If you have a cold, come prepared to control your cough as much as possible. The concert hall actually provides lozenges free of charge in the lobby, so grab some to bring to your seat. Unwrap them before the music starts, so you can simply pop them in your mouth as needed without having to worry about the crinkling wrapper. You should only applaud after the music is over and not between each movement. Follow the lead of your fellow concertgoers if you’re uncertain.
- Single tickets are available for most San Francisco Symphony performances, and you also have the option of buying a subscription. A subscription is a set of tickets for several different shows, and is cheaper per show than single tickets.
